Nursery
Welcome to Nursery.
In our teaching team we currently have Mrs Felton, Miss Akhtar, Mrs Wright and Mrs Taylor.
When children start Nursery, each child is allocated a Key Person to promote positive relationships. The parents and children will learn who their key person is once their child has settled. It is the responsibility of the Key Person to get to know their children in depth and gain a holistic view of each child.
In Nursery we learn through play. Play is an essential component of children’s lives. Through play children learn about themselves, their environment and the world around them. Play helps to develop important skills such as problem solving and turn taking. In addition to this, adults provide well planned activities that are exciting and engaging and that fully take into account the needs and abilities of the children. Nursery children have access to a range of different activities that promote and develop basic skills, including Dough Disco – which promotes and develops gross motor, fine motor and pre-writing skills.
Physical Development is a prime aspect of our curriculum and we ensure that children have regular access to the outdoor areas to develop the necessary skills. Outdoor learning is vital and we aim to be outdoors whatever the weather. We also have access to trikes and scooters which help with balance, coordination and strength.
In our classroom you will find a happy learning environment where all children are encouraged to be as independent as possible; through making choices about their learning, managing their own personal hygiene and self-care and taking responsibility for looking after equipment and resources. In the classroom you will find children who are engaged and excited about their learning and this can be evidenced through the classroom displays.
Our Catholic Faith is very important to us and we encourage the children to join in and say our prayers together. We ensure children are aware of the importance of prayer and reflection. Children in Nursery will take part in Religious Studies each week – looking at a range of topics, including the Creation Story. Our class saint is Saint George and we celebrate his feast day on 23rd April.
In the Early Years Foundation Stage, we aim to build positive relationships with parents and to keep them informed of their child’s learning. Parents are welcome to come into Nursery as they drop their children off and see the wonderful work that goes on. This also provides opportunities for you to celebrate your child’s achievements. Holy Family Nursery is a place where ‘playful learning’ happens and every child matter and are supported to reach their full potential.
