Year 2 celebrated the feast day of St Josephine Bakhita.
We discovered more about her life and looked at a map of the journey she took from Sudan to Italy. We learned about her life and the way she was treated as a slave and a refugee. We learned that she always treated others with dignity and care and was the doorkeeper at the convent welcoming others. We linked this to our work about refugees and being a sanctuary school.
We wrote prayers of welcome and planned and led collective worship focussing on welcoming others like St Josephine Bakhita. We celebrated together and thanked God for our special saint.
“She was kind and gentle.”
“She gave her life to helping others.”
