On 8th February Year 2 celebrated the Feast day of St Josephine Bakhita. They learned about her life and her dedication to God and to helping others. They learned that she was a slave and sought sanctuary where she was called to a new vocation following God and supporting others who had been slaves, those who are trafficked and refugees.
They wrote prayers for those seeking refuge and sanctuary and prayed that we will always show dignity to others just like St Josephine Bakhita did. Through our Catholic Social Teaching we thought about showing dignity to others and dignity to all workers so that they are paid and receive what is theirs so they can live with independence.
St Josephine Bakhita is a wonderful role model who opened her heart to God, forgave those who treated her so badly and always welcomed others with a smile and gentle words when she was the doorkeeper at the convent.
The children celebrated together and thanked God in their prayer and liturgy for the life of St Josephine Bakhita.
