Year 4

Welcome to Year 4!

We link very closely with Year 3 and Year 5 to ensure consistency and to continue to move the children's learning on.

We strive to provide the children with a broad, balanced and creative curriculum catering to the needs of all children

In our classroom, we have a ‘can do’ attitude; you will find a happy and engaging learning environment where all children are encouraged to try their best and reach their full potential.

Our Catholic Faith is very important to us and we strive to ensure that we live out our Mission Statement to the best of our ability every day. We participate in a class assembly each year. As well as this assembly, we also have the opportunity to join our local parishioners to celebrate mass in Holy Family Church at the beginning of each month. Our faith permeates all that we do in school both through our lessons and how we behave and respond to each other in our daily lives. Our altar is the focal point of our classroom which we continually update to reflect the Liturgical calendar throughout the year.

During this year we will be learning a lot about our class saint (St Brigid) and we look forward to sharing our class assembly and mass later in the year.

Year 4 also have the opportunity to go on a school residential to Kingswood, which is an outdoor adventure centre for children. This trip offers children the chance to take part in team building skills and a range of fun indoor and outdoor activities. We also visit a Synagogue as part of Interfaith week.

We have PE twice a week, on Mondays and Fridays. Year 4 children have a specialist music teacher who comes in every Thursday to teach them to play the clarinet.

Homework for Year 4 usually includes a comprehension/grammar and some math’s calculations. Year 4 are also expected to learn their times tables and spellings every night and do some reading.

In the Autumn term there is an Inspire workshop for Year 4 where we invite parents into the school to work with their children and teacher on reading, comprehension and the role of parents in helping our children to become better readers.

In our teaching team we currently have Mrs Zunaib, Mrs Wrob and Mrs Lloyd. Our lunch time supervisor Mrs Goulding works with us during guided reading sessions.
