Year 2

Welcome to Year 2’s family.

Our teaching team is Mr Craggs and Mrs Anderson.

The children are at the forefront of our class and everything we do, where we honour and set high expectations for all. We aim to work alongside our Mission Statement in; taking pride in everything we do, being the best we can possibly be, and making a difference.

To ensure a smooth transition from Year 1, we will still be developing the children’s knowledge and application of phonics on a daily basis. We believe this is an imperative skill at the foundation of all learning.

Our Catholic Faith is very important to us and we strive to ensure that we live out our Mission to the best of our ability every day. As well as this assembly, we also have the opportunity to join our local parishioners to celebrate Mass in Holy Family Church at the beginning of each month, one of which we will lead. Our faith permeates all that we do in school both through our lessons and how we behave and respond to each other in our daily lives. Our altar is the focal point of our classroom which we continually update to reflect the Liturgical calendar throughout the year.

In Year 2 we believe it is imperative for our children to be reading with their parents/guardians every evening. This will help reinforce the phonics, vocabulary and comprehensive skills the children will be learning in our classroom. We change books twice a week, on a Tuesday and Friday.

Homework is also given out on Tuesday and Friday. Our homework is either to support our work within that week or helps us to remember our basic skills in Maths and English. Spellings are given out on a Monday to be revised every night. On Friday mornings until 9am we invite parents into the class to read with their child.
