Year 1

Welcome to Year 1.

We link very closely with Reception and Year 2 to ensure progress is made through transition and continuity. We endeavour to provide our children with a broad, balanced and creative curriculum that builds on The Early Learning Goals which most children have achieved in Reception.

Our Year 1 classroom is a positive and happy learning environment where all children are valued and encouraged to become independent learners.

Our Catholic Faith is very important to us at Holy Family. We live, love and learn together and make sure we live out Mission Statement every day as best we can. We participate in a class assembly each year. We go to mass once a month as a school with local parishioners where we join in with hymns and prayers. We also say our prayers throughout the day and take it in turns being Prayer Leaders.

In Year 1 we are expected to read every day at home and in school to improve our reading skills. We also complete homework each week to improve our comprehension skills and to help us learn key math facts like the 2, 5 and 10 times tables. Our reading books are changed twice a week, on a Tuesday and a Friday. We have PE on Mondays and Fridays.

Year 1 children have opportunities to take part in exciting after-school clubs, such as Dance and Taekwondo.

In our teaching team we currently have Miss McDonagh and Mrs Guest.
