Welcome to Nursery.

In our teaching team we currently have Miss Landucci, Miss Akhtar and Mrs Wright. We also have Mrs Kenny who is with Nursery on a Thursday. When children start Nursery each child is allocated a Key Person and this is to promote positive relationships. The parents and children will learn who their key person is once their child has settled. It is the responsibility of the Key Person to get to know their children in depth and gain a holistic view of each child.

We work very closely with Reception as part of the Early Years Foundation Stage. The Early Years Foundation Stage provides children with the opportunity to build the foundations for learning. We strive to ensure that the children get the best possible start to their school life by providing them with a fun and engaging curriculum.

The Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum consists of 7 areas of learning. The Prime areas are Personal, Social and Emotional Development, Physical Development and Communication and Language. The Specific areas are Maths, Literacy, Understanding the World and Expressive Arts and Design. Children have the opportunity to explore all areas of learning throughout the week.

In Nursery we learn through play. Play is an essential component of children's lives. Through play children learn about themselves, their environment and the world around them. Play helps to develop important skills such as problem solving and turn taking. In addition to this, adults provide well planned activities that are exciting and engaging and that fully take into account the needs and abilities of the children. Nursery children have access to a range of different activities that promote and develop basic skills, including Squiggle Whilst You Wiggle and Dough Disco – both promote and develop gross motor, fine motor and pre-writing skills.

In our classroom you will find a happy learning environment where all children are encouraged to be as independent as possible; through making choices about their learning, managing their own personal hygiene and self-care and taking responsibility for looking after equipment and resources. In the classroom you will find children who are engaged and excited about their learning and this can be evidenced through the classroom displays.

Our Catholic Faith is very important to us and we encourage the children to join in and say our prayers together. We ensure children are aware of the importance of prayer and reflection. Children in Nursery will take part in Religious Studies each week – looking at a range of topics, including the Creation Story.

Nursery will take part in some additional activities and assemblies. All Nursery children will take part in the Christmas Nativity. During the year there will be Inspire Workshops that involve both children and parents.

In the Early Years Foundation Stage we aim to build positive relationships with parents and to keep them informed of their child's learning. So towards the end of each term we invite parents into the classroom to look through their child's Learning Journey and share their thoughts. It is a great opportunity to talk on an informal basis and to celebrate the children's achievements.

Physical Development is a prime aspect of our curriculum and we ensure that children have regular access to the outdoor areas to develop the necessary skills. Outdoor learning is vital and we aim to be outdoors whatever the weather. In addition to this time outdoors, we provide children with a short session of Physical Education every Monday.
