Special Event - Sign Language Assembly

On Friday 23rd October, we had a special visitor, Mrs Maloney, to talk to the children in KS2 how we communicate with each other.

We found out that children learn to talk by listening to the people around them and mimicking sounds and mouth shapes. As they develop their language skills, they copy the intonation and speech patterns of those around them.

To support our communication with one another Mrs Maloney introduced us to some basic signing that we can use to communicate in every day – some of it was common sense.

Mrs Maloney went on to teach us how to sign to Katie Perry’s song 'Firework', which you can see us attempting in the video clips below.
